City Overview

Rostov-on-Don is a large and beautiful city situated on the banks of the River Don with more then one million inhabitants. Rostov is famous for its theatres, places of historical interest, nightclubs, monuments, parks, and the attractive sights of its satellite towns. The climate here is sunny with hot summers and snowy winters.

Bolshaya Sadovaya Street (Big Orchard Street) is the main thoroughfare and boasts shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres, cinemas and plenty of beautiful parks.

Strolling down Pushkinskaya Street can be an interesting pastime. There are a couple of museums worth visiting; the Fine Arts Museum has a good collection of 19th century Russian paintings, including works from Repin, Levitan, Surikov and Perov. You and your Russian lady could also visit the Museum of Local Lore, which traces the history of the Cossacks in Rostov. A trip to the market place in the city centre is always worthwhile. You can watch the hustle and bustle of local people while you browse for interesting hand made souvenirs. Listen to classical music in the Concert Hall or experience the new Opera and Ballet Theatre, which was opened a few years ago. At the Main Cathedral you will often have the chance to see a religious ceremony and listen to their excellent choir.

In the evening try your hand in the "Golden Jack" or "Hollywood" casino, then strut your stuff with your beautiful companion in the popular "Titanic", "Atlantida", "Dark City", "Genus" or "Big Sound" nightclubs. You will find yourself dancing until the early hours as you experience an atmosphere with a certain vibrancy that is not easily found at home. Enjoy international cuisine in a choice of Armenian, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, and Japanese restaurants among others.

Three kilometers along the river from Rostov you will find the "Petrovsky Pritchal" restaurant complex built in the style of Peter the First. A favourite spot for locals, where you can have an unforgettably romantic time. Savour the best Russian and international dishes, hire a boat, go for a swim, or pamper yourselves in a Russian steam bath. Another option would be to spend a day in the "Kazachy Dozor" Complex, where you can sample the local traditions of Cossack life; enjoy local dishes, or go for a horse-ride. Don Land is famous for its hospitality. If you decide to visit Stanitsa Starocherkasskaya, which is one of the ancient Don Cossack settlements, you will have the opportunity to get a feel for the history of the Don. Breathe in its fresh air, taste their famous Cossack fish soup, try their wine, and listen to the ancient Cossack songs. At the end of the day, every trip that you go on will be a great opportunity to become closer to the lady that you are with.
